Audrey Hepburn

My favorite types of influencers are the ones without social media. I am excited to be creating a blog series with Gary Kayye’s “Branding of Me” class where I will be writing about my favorite icons that were “influencers” before their time.

Today, I’ve decided to start with Audrey Hepburn, as she was my very first role model. My sister and I loved watching all her films while growing up. Initially, I admired the characters she portrayed, but as I got older and learned more about her life, I came to understand why she is a role model to all.

The first word I would use to describe Audrey Hepburn is ‘elegant.’ She carried herself with such grace and poise and had a timeless style. More importantly, she was also incredibly strong. Born in Belgium and living through WWII in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands, Hepburn faced many hardships during that time. Despite these challenges, she showed remarkable resilience and moved to London shortly after the war to study ballet and acting. She is now celebrated for her roles in films such as Roman Holiday, Sabrina, War and Peace, Funny Face, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, My Fair Lady, and Wait Until Dark.

Later in her life, Hepburn devoted herself to humanitarian work. She became a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and worked to help children in need. Her dedication to charitable causes showed her compassion and commitment to making a positive impact on the world.

She set trends with her iconic style, inspired actors and filmmakers through her roles in cinema, and made contributions that have had a lasting impact on popular culture. Hepburn’s influence extends beyond fashion and film to societal views on grace, resilience, and charity. While she wasn’t an influencer in the modern social media sense, she was a major influence in her time and remains one of the most significant figures in history.
